Well, let's see.. I am in Erie PA but the car was from North Carolina. It should not have too many classic Corvette rot issues, right, LOL.
I took the front end off to restoration and found lots of fun rust projects. The upper windshield is a gonner. I have a replacement frame ready to weld in. I was a welder, fabricator for many years but what a challenge.
Both door pillars are wow, bad! One pillar is being replaced as I cut the firewall portion of the bird cage almost to the wiper transmission. I removed the drivers pillar as I cut the rocker off almost to the door at the latch side. The car was hit between the hinges, not too hard it just dented the pillar. The pillar bieng replaced as I bought a half of a fire wall and most of the rocker. The outside face of the frame rail is also dented as the rocker took the hit as well. The frame is not bent (no evidence showing on the inside of the frame rail) the hit was not too hard. I will cut the dented outer section of the frame, straigten it and weld it back in. I am also checking the car for out of square issues just to be sure it is not knocked out.
The car was touched by someone who had no business doing so. I have found where they have been. They broke, stripped and cut all kinds of stuff. So I say they were there; screwed it up, I found it and have to fix it. I have a box end wrench trapped in the trailing arm. They used it as a shim and left it sticking out so you can see it in front of the tire at the frame.
I have lots of questions and will be joining in the conversations soon. I have pics too and will follow with those as well.
I love this car and cannot wait to drive her again!!
