I live near and work at Ramstein Airbase in Germany with the U.S. Air Force. I picked up my new, (new to me) 2007 Corvette last Tuesday in the port city of Bremerhaven and drove 410 miles home. To say the least the drive was fantastic, I got lucky with the weather and the roads stayed dry even though we had some snow flurries. I took it easy the for most of the drive but north of Frankfurt there was a stretch of Autobahn that was relatively empty, clean and straight, I opened her up to about 130 mph for maybe 10 or 15 minutes. When I floored the pedal she coiled up and took off. What can I say? It was an exhilarating rush. It was after that, when I got home and washed her with buckets of water in my driveway in the cold (27F) that I really fell in love with my car. It's winter here, lots of snow and ice, it may be a few weeks before I can take her on the road again. I can't hardly wait.
Welcome. I am stationed down the road in Mannheim. I'm working in DC at the moment but will be heading back to Germany in the first week of April. I'm buying an 06 Coupe while I'm here and will be shipping it back. Hopefully if all goes right with shipping it will be waiting at the port when I get there. I'm looking forward to the drive from Bremenhaven back home!
