Hey guys! Recently I have been searching through this forum. I figured I would go ahead and introduce myself. My name is Taylor and I am from VA. I have had a mazdaspeed6 for 4 years now and have been a part of the mazda community since. I just recently purchased a 2001 Corvette. So far I love it.
What I know about the car when I purchased it is that it has had some head work done including an aftermarket cam. It also has headers and full exhaust. As well as a twin air intake. I went ahead and seafoamed the car when I got it to clean out any carbon built up and it was a lot of smoke! I then changed the oil over to amsoil and changed the spark plugs and wires.
The only issues I have with the car is that when I first start it up it acts like it wants to die. I have to give it light throttle for about 5-10 seconds. I read somewhere that it can be tuned out and is the cam causing this. Is this true? Anther issue I have is the car doesnt like going into 2nd gear. Its almost like you have to force it and if you do it too fast it will grind. Another thing is the smoke at idle and while driving. A follower told me that it had a nice cloud of black smoke when I nailed it one time. It is not burning any oil or coolant. Could it be running rich? There is a bit of black soot on the rear bumper and exhaust tips after a long drive. What is a good tuning device?
Well here she is. First are when I first picked it up.
Here are more recent shots. I cleaned up the exterior with removing some badges and the front lip and rear spoiler. I also installed the lowering bolt kit and put on 19" CCW wheels. Also added the glass roof.
Welcome to the Forum Taylor and congratulations on your Z Good looking car and the wheels are awesome. Good luck as you take care of those issues. :thumb
