I do not currently own a Corvette, but I am in the market for a C3 or C4. Today I drove my first of a few cars I am looking at. It was an '89 C4 Auto. She drove nice, but the smell of burning oil after the test drive concerns me. The car does not leak any oil from what I have seen (I test drove it in the dark today). I am going to look at it again tomorrow in the daylight, with mirrors and a bright light. And the seller told me the only quirky thing the vette has is when you shut the A/C off, it takes a little while for the air to shut off (air stops moving). Tomorrow I am going to try and look at the bottom side of the engine/trans to see if the rear main is leaking. If it is I may look else where or offer a lower price than what the seller is asking.
I don't know, but I'll do some searching on here to learn more about Corvettes. I'm just looking for an un-modified vette for me to tweak and mod my way.... over time. And drive her the rest of the time.
Welcome to the Forum Mark The smell of burning oil may just be a leaky valve cover and oil on the exhaust manifold. Good luck and I hope this works out for you.

I looked at the car again today. It does not look like the oil is coming from the valve covers. I did see oil drips between the motor and trans. The owner said the oil smell may be from the oil filter adapter. The car has a rough idle as well. I am thinking I am not going to look at ths car again. I do have a few C3's to look at though.
