Bought my first corvette last week, a 1999 black hardtop six speed, with 51K on the odometer. Needless to say I'm already having issues with the car, since there was no owners manual included I had to replace the battery in the key fob and it still doesn't work? I have a re-occurring message on the dash that my tire pressure is low, geez what I get myself into???? Al

Welcome to the Forum!!!!!!! Congratulations on your C5!! Hope you enjoy the car and the Forums.

First, here's one link to the Owner's Manual online:

http://www.gmpartshouse.com/download...99corvette.pdf

Second, try not to fret too much about the tire pressure thing. While the car is 12 years old and quite possibly the wheel TPMS sensors need to be replaced, the useful life is about 10 years, it may not be that bad. Just go into the C5 General Forum and ask for help. The owners there will steer you straight. Good luck.

Thanks for the welcome guys! Funny thing happened- I put air in the tires and the message on the dash went away.... was replaced with "low washer fluid" which was an easy fix.. oil looks like three day old coffee, see it only takes Mobil 1, I was used to changing oil myself on my Toyota Tacoma, but I see this is going to be a challenge. I suppose I can have it done for me, or I could try and find a jack that'll fit under the car, gawd that sounds like a hassle. Going to take some getting used to driving a vehicle that sits so low, seems like my driving habits are the same, (for the most part conservative) but the drivers around me want to race? or challenge the car.... oh well. If you want to go first class you can get Race Ramps:

Or you can make your own wood ramps. Some examples throughout this thread:

Hi and welcome. The 2 problems are minor and very common to every make and model car. Key FOB batteries last about 3 years and when replaced the FOB must be re-programmed through the DIC.

First try resyncronizing your transmitter.

From the owners manual:

Resynchronizing Your Transmitter
Your RKE system uses a continually changing code for
increased security. Normally, the receiver in your
vehicle will keep track of this changing code. If your
vehicle does not respond to your transmitter, do the
following to determine what’s wrong:
1. Get closer to the vehicle and try pressing a button
again. Your battery may be low. If so, see “Battery
Replacement” in the Index.
2. While standing close to your vehicle, press the
lock and unlock buttons on your transmitter at the
same time and hold for seven seconds. This will
attempt to resynchronize the security code in your
RKE transmitter.
3. When resynchronization is achieved, the horn
will chirp.

If attempts to resynchronize your transmitter to the
vehicle are not successful, you may need to match the
transmitter to the vehicle. See “Matching Transmitter(s)
to Your Vehicle” in the Index.

To match transmitters to your vehicle:
1. Turn the ignition key to ON.
2. Clear any warning messages on the Driver Information
Center (DIC) by pressing the RESET button.
3. Press the OPTIONS button on the DIC several times
until the blank page is displayed, then press and hold
the RESET button for two seconds.
4. When the message FOB TRAINING is displayed,
push the RESET button once. The message HOLD
LK + UNLK 1ST FOB in the DIC will be displayed.
5. Press and hold the lock and unlock buttons on the
first transmitter simultaneously for five seconds.
6. When a transmitter is learned (matched), the DIC
will display FOB LEARNED and then prompt you
to learn the second transmitter.
7. Repeat Steps 5 and 6 for the third transmitter.
8. Remove the key from the ignition.
The programming mode will shut off if any of following
has occurred:
You don’t program any transmitters for two minutes.
You take the key out of the ignition.
You have programmed three transmitters.
Battery Replacement
Under normal use, the battery in your remote keyless
entry transmitter should last about three years.
You can tell the battery is weak if the transmitter won’t
work at the normal range in any location. If you have to
get close to your vehicle before the transmitter works,
it’s probably time to change the battery.
NOTICE:
When replacing the battery, use care not to touch
any of the circuitry. Static from your body
transferred to these surfaces may damage
the transmitter.

Tire Pressure Low:
If you have a re-occurring message on the dash that my tire pressure is low then you must have a slow leak.

From the Corvette Owners Manual:
If a tire pressure message appears on the DIC, stop as soon as you can. Have the tire pressures checked and set to those shown on your
Tire Loading Information Label. See “Extended
Mobility Tires” in the Index.
