My name is Garth and I'm from Buffalo, NY. While I'm the new guy on these forums, my love affair with Corvettes has gone on for close to 30 years. I'm 32. My aunt brought a 72 Corvette coupe, 350 auto, blue ext, black int, big chrome sidepipes, when I was about 3. My parents said I had a thing for cars before that but the sound of that Vette mesmerized me. I was hooked. I spent a lot of time in that car washing, waxing, day dreaming, and going for rides around town. I was truely obsessed with it. Much to my dismay my aunt sold the Vette when I was about 14 for around 6k. I can't fault her, her and her husband needed the cash for a new business they were starting. I was pretty crushed. To add insult to injury my aunt told me that my love affair with the car had made it tough to sell and that the car would have been willed to me had she kept it. Not long after the car sold, my aunt and her husband seperated. While my aunt was in Florida visiting family, he cleaned out the house including any records of the Vette. The only thing my aunt remembers is that the guy who bought the car was from Hamburg, NY. I'd like to find that car, but I know the chances are remote. I'm sure my story isn't unique and plenty of forum members can relate.
Anyways, I decided to join because I want to educate myself further, especially on what to look for when purchasing a 68-72 Corvette. I'm not ready to buy yet, but I anticipate that I will be able to in less than a year. In addition, there are some amazing looking cars on this site from every generation and just checking out the other cars is worth the time.
When I do begin a serious search, I won't be looking for an all original classic that I'll be afraid to drive.(not that I could afford one anyways) No, I want something with a few imperfections, but won't leave me on the side of the road either. I have some mechanical skills and I'm looking forward to buying a car and making it my own.
That's a little about me and hopefully I don't **** off any of the regulars with my newbie questions.-Garth
Welcome to the Forum!!!!!! Nice story. Maybe you can track down your aunt's car. Start by asking in the C3 General Forum and the Northeast Regional Forum. Never know, maybe someone here has it or had it or knows it. Good luck with anything you do. Enjoy the Forums.
