Default Thinkin About a C4

Hello everyone, just wanted to stop buy and get some info and some camaraderie. I am looking at an 87 , it fits into my budget and I love driving it. I have driven a few vets, C4,C5 and a C6, but I can honestly only afford a C4. I will have some questions in the C4 specific forums. Don't worry I have already read through all the noob to do lists, lol. Can't wait to exchange ideas and stories with you all.

The great thing about Corvette's is that there is one that fits almost any budget. You get tremendous value for the dollar with a good used C4. Just get the Vette in the best possible condition for your budget. With the huge depreciation that the C4's took, it is hard to get hurt on a C4 purchase (unless you buy one in really rough shape that needs alot of work).

Good luck with your purchase.

Thanks for the reply, I am willing to drop 6k on one, and from what I have seen, that will put me in a pretty nice late 80's C4, and some LT1 cars are also in that area, but I had a 94 Camaro Z28 and I did not particularly like the LT1.

Sounds like you are looking in the right segment of the market. I had and liked the LT1 in my 93 Corvette. I never had a mechanical issue with it. Why dont you like it?

Lots of good Vettes are available, good luck.

Loved the power and the way it responded, but I had issues with the ignition system. Every time it rained the car would miss and hiccup. I am pretty sure it was due to the cap being on the front of the motor. I replaced the unit with a nos GM part and it still did it. My friend went to a flying mag crank trigger and it solved the problem, but man that was expensive.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience with the LT1. The LT1 was reliable for many of us but I'm sure individual experiences vary. I would not be afraid of a LT1 and in fact it would be my choice in a C4. However, if I had your experience I would probably feel differently. I suggest that you do some research on the C4 section of the forum. In the end, do what you feel most comfortable doing. Great to have you here. Welcome.
