64 Corvette Stingray Coupe - New to the forum.
First of all I'd like to say that I have read through these forums for the past month as I started the restoration of my 64 Corvette, #'s matching with all NOS parts.
Once completely restored I will go through the NCRS judging and see what comes of it. The corvette is a 64 327ci with all the goodies and spare NOS parts ordered in 1976 - in other words I have all the part (most) to replace what's on the body. The original owner kept the car for over 30+ years and had plans to restore it until he passed about 1 year ago.
Here are my questions and appreciate everyone's guidance and understanding even if my questions are lame.
(1) Do I have the car repainted? The car is original paint and besides some scuffs and breaks in the fiberglass hood it looks pretty good - the paint was originally dull however 12 hours and I think I managed to make it look very nice (see image attached)
(2) It currently has the original rims on the car, however the original owner purchase the knockoff rims in 1972 from Rockwell international from here in Anaheim, CA. The rims are still in their original box etc. I've ordered wheels from cockertire.com and the 1" white walls are due to be delivered next week. Does anyone recommend not adding the knockoffs for NCRS judging?
(3) I am currently having someone redo the brakes - I take it any part i.e. cylinder should be rebuilt with kits and not replaced. I have a spare brand new in the box cylinder for each wheel however don't fee comfortable putting them in right as the current ones look very well.
(4) I saw several threads about using Zinc oil - Break in oil. Is this true for this corvette as well? I"m thinking of using the Lucas Break In Oil with new K&N Oil and Air Filters.
(5) The owner also has new OEM carpet he ordered in 1976 which is still in the box - despite the carpet not being too badly used some of it is in poor condition because of normal aging, wear and tear. Should I go ahead an put in the new carpet?
(6) The owner also has 4 different carburators which he stock piled in the 80's and a whole more bunch of more parts for his other car which was a 59" Vette. Should I keep all of these handy? Or would it be best to sell them - are they worth more than the reproduction made now days?
Look forward to any feedback and comments. The car was garaged since mid 70' and taken out one last time in 85. It only has 12,800 miles and turned right on after only spending 2-3 hours working on the carburator, cleaning the fuel filter etc...
Any ideas or comments on getting NCRS are welcome and appreciated. Below is a picture of the wife and I taking her out on the road for the first time. I still have to get the bumpers on the car (new OEM/NOS) but since I couldn't find the bolts to put it on the car I had to order them through Ecklers.
Thanks,
Gio

Wow... just freakin wow... beautiful car! The story behind it touches me, very similar to the story of my Dad's 72... and furthermore his first Corvette was a 64, so please share your progress with us here! The paint looks good to me from the pic.
I realize what you are going for, but always remember it is a car meant to be driven! And it is your car, so you mentioned you have multiple carb setups, at the end of the day the choice is up to you! I hope you enjoy your restoration! Plenty of gurus here to help you out!

So I took the car in this past week to Corvette Mikes' in Anaheim, CA and did a high level NCRS review of the vehicle for $200 and this is what the assessment yielded.
- Radiator Incorrect
- Battery + Cables Incorrect
- Master Cylinder - Incorrect
- Shielding - Missing
- Plating - Worn
- Windshield - Wrong
- Undercoating (Bottom of Hood) - Wrong
- Radio - Inoperable
- Wiper - Inoperable
- Fuel Line - Out/Repaired
- Ball Joints (Bolted In) - Wrong
- Rear Suspension - Worn
- Exhaust System - Worn
- Front Suspension - Worn
- Front Body - Need Replace
- Exp Tank Straps - Missing
- After Market Ignition (Electronic) - Added
- Alarm - Button
- Valve Covers - Incorrect.
The numbers on the motor, transmission are all matching and all the other components are correct for the vehicle. Looks like I have a little bit of work ahead of me but most of the component like the original hoses, radiator, wipers, ignition, and valve covers I have since they were replaced for functional reasons i.e. racing in the 60's. The car currently has a better radiator since the original caused the car to overheat a lot and the windshield was broken by a mad wife =). Everything else appears to be normal wear and tear from sitting in a garage for 30 years.
Does anyone know if this is worth pursuing for NCRS? I feel like I will continue down the path and do my best every year to restore sections at a time. Any who just thought I'd provide a status on the 64' Silver Bullet.
Thanks,
Gio

300 is a great engine. Far as your Q's...STOCK / ORIGINAL is the target for NCRS. An original paint in good condition is better than a new in excellent condition.
But for the complete rundown post the Q's over in the discussion forum under C1 / C2 Corvettes. You will get tons of valuable tips and help. Also make use of advance searches on prior topic discussions.
