My dad, Jimmy, bought this car in September of 1974. My profile picture is of my dad when he first bought it. I was only 8 years old and instantly fell in love with it. I spent most of my youth washing and waxing this car, and the original vinyl hard top still looks brand new thanks to my elbow grease. My dad said that some day this car would be mine as long as I didn't start smoking. So when I turned 16 I said to my dad, "Well, I don't smoke, so can I have the Corvette?" He said, "Well, you might start tomorrow, so we will have to wait and see". This went on for the next 30 years or so. Time passed and we did what dads and sons do. We started spending less and less time together. I got through college and then got busy with work and started my own family. He kept the Corvette in his garage and when I did get over to visit, if it was nice out, we would dig the car out and I'd wash it and we'd go for a ride. We didn't see each other often but I figured we'd have lots of time together to take rides. Then last year he was diagnosed with bone and liver cancer. I was at his house this past June and he gave me the title to the Corvette and said he wanted me to get it to my house so it could find a spot in my garage. I said ok, but I wanted him to come over so we could take a ride. I was able to get him to my house in early July and we were able to go on a short cruise around my neighborhood. He passed away on July 27 2012. Now my 8 year old son and I are going on rides together..... and I told him this car will be his some day..... as long as he doesn't smoke.
Rest In Peace Dad

Very touching story and well written. History repeats itself with your own 8-year old. That is so cool
I'm a 46'r myself and time fly's. Like being on a extended cruise with exit sign somewhere around the bend.
That Elkhart Green was a good pick by your Dad

Welcome aboard. Sorry for your loss. Great car! I know it means more to you as it was your dads. It will mean more to your son as well. As long as he doesn't take up smoking.
Welcome to the Forum but very sorry to hear about the loss of your Father. I know that car must mean a great deal to you with so many memories of you and your dad together with it.
