Hi. I'm new to this forum and Corvettes. I've never really paid much attention to Corvettes for whatever reason. I guess I always gravitated to Ford Mustangs and Shelby's. But when I was considering building a Factory Five kit of the Daytona Coupe I looked at the dollars (40,000+ of them) and considered what I could get that had true heritage rather than facsimile. The Daytona Coupe kit is very cool, but it's still a kit but I also want something with a racing heritage.
While at Barnes & Noble I came across Chris Petris's "How to Restore Your Corvette: 1963-1967." I bought it. I really liked the lines of the Mid-Year Corvette (learning the lingo) and lo and behold I came across the article in Corvette Magazine (December 2012) by Peter Brock on how he came up with the Sting Ray styling. "Of course, I see it. THAT'S why I like the Mid-Year Sting Rays. They're designed (basically) by the same guy that designed the Shelby Daytona Coupe. Just look at them."
That's all it took. Now I'm all in to the Corvette Mid-Year Sting Ray Coupe, 1964-1966 - the '63's and '67's are too pricey.
I have started my odyssey of learning about the Corvette and its people and what I've learned so far is fantastic. I hope to go to the Bowling Green Museum one day and participate in as many gatherings as possible. Then, when I am more informed, I'll buy my Mid-Year and either drive it or restore it then drive it.
So, thanks for the welcome and I hope to meet you all in the future.
Welcome to the forum! Like you, I looked at several other interesting cats but finally decided they were "half way." Lots of information here - enjoy your search.
