Engine Designations

Looking to buy me FIRST corvette. What does the L88, L89, etc., mean? I know it silly but were can I find a list of all and what they mean?

Doesn't mean anything. Just a designation they gave to distinguish that engine from another one.

What model year Corvette are you talking about and specifically what engine designations and I can probably tell you a little about the engine.

Your first L88 will cost you. They only made 20 of them in '67. 80 in '68 & 116 in '69 Official HP was 430 (single 4 Barrel) but intentionally far under-rated. My SWAG is 1M.

L89 was the RPO ordering designation for the aluminum heads for the tri-power 435 HP 427 L71.
