Hey there. I'm a new-to-the-corvette guy shopping for my first C5. I've always loved owning a fun car to drive and have had a couple of 911s, Triumph Spitfire, Mustang Bullitt, and still have 1973 Mustang in the family (now owned by my oldest kid).
I've been researching and shopping for various cars for the last couple of months (XK8s, CLKs, SL500, Corvettes). When it came down to it... Its impossible to beat the Corvette in the dollar per smile category! I really wanted an FRC. But then a good friend and true corvette nut let me drive his 99 convertible. So... I'm not playing favorites now and looking at those, too!
My wife is sick and tired of me prowling the web in my corvette quest so I will pull the trigger soon. Frankly, I'm getting tired of looking, too. I'd rather see one sitting in my driveway!!
For now, that's all I've got. Glad to be a part of the forum.
Hello & Welcome to the forum. I know what you mean in terms of "hitting the wall" on the search. There comes a point when you just have to have that VETTE!. However, unless you been lurking for awhile I would urge you to spend some time on the forum before you "pull the trigger". You will learn a lot in a very short time and that may impact your decision as to which year, sub-model and options you prefer. I'd hate to see you do a "would've, could've, should've".
Too, keep in mind that, at least in the C6 generation, the Base and Grand Sport Models are Targa Tops. Certainly not a replacement for a roadster but with the top off you definately get that open air feel, and with the top in place you attain the same look as the FRC models (Z06 and ZR1)
Thanks, everyone. I'm looking forward to being a Corvette owner soon! I've found a 1999 FRC M6 with approximately 120k. Pewter with black interior. Dealer sale, clean carfax, lived its entire life's in California. Asking price is $12,500. Would you corvette gurus consider this a high mileage car? I keep my stuff well maintained and do plan on using it as a daily driver. Is it a better idea to buy a 60k mile car for the $15k price range? I know..... Lots of variables in there, but in general terms for these cars, what are your thoughts?
Btw. I've got my financing done through PenFed at an awesome rate of 1.49% for any yap ear, any mileage. Hard to beat that deal!
