My name is Brandon. I have dreamed about owning a Corvette since I was a kid. I just realized I am in the perfect position to make it happen but I need your help/advice.
After a weekend of test drives and internet searches I have narrowed down what I am looking to buy as my first Corvette. Problem is that the car I want to look at is 1000 miles away.
How would y'all recommend procuring a car from such a great distance?
Do I need to find someone to go test drive and inspect it? Could I find a Corvette specialist in the area of the car to go inspect it? Or should I fly down to check it out personally?
If you or someone you know has been in this kind of situation, I would love to hear how you worked it out.
Welcome to the Forum Brandon
There are companies that will do a complete check of the car and give you a printout. You could post in the regional section of the forum and see if a member in that area could look at it. If you would post where you are and the car is that would help in the process.
Hi, I'm new to the forum also, I bought my first vette ('03z) last August. Flew from McAlen to Dallas, then drove it back 350 miles +/-. I would say get a carfax to make sure it hasn't been wrecked before you go to test drive it. Smell the oil, inspect the coolant, look for leaks then run it hard and long on the test drive. (don't wreck it) Make sure that the Oil preasure is up and steady and that the coolant temp doesn't go too much above 180. Check your state's used car dealer laws to see if and how many days you have to back out of the deal. If not sure if you want to buy that car then don't. But if you're confident go for it. You are going to enjoy that 1,000 mile run.
I have used CarChex (web site) several times for cars too far away to look at as well as some local cars. Helps to have a second set of eyes that has no emotional attachment to the situation. I too just bought my first vette, life long dream. 2005 Convertible 6spd. Bought it 500 miles away, flew in dropped off the check and drove home. Greatest Saturday of my life. Good luck.
