Hi - I recently purchased my first Corvette (Velocity Yellow C6 coupe) and have been very pleased with the driving experience. I've owned a number of other "drivers cars" including a few BMW's, but the C6 is the most enjoyable. In addition, unlike BMW's I don't see the same car at every traffic light!
After driving a few Corvettes, I selected the automatic transmission because I could not accept the forced 1-4 shift. I understand that aftermarket fixes exist, but I really don't understand why the 1-4 is required from the factory. I doubt it is due to fuel economy requirements because my C6 auto delivers 28 mpg highway and 19.5 around town, much better than our GM SUV. In addition, the relatively small number of Corvettes should have little impact on GM's overall CAFE.
Can anyone offer an explanation for the 1-4 shift requirement?
Thanks
