electrical problem in 1986

electrical problem in 1986
step on brake and the motor cuts out and dies, hit the key and nothing,no radio, dash lights and gauges go black, everything on the dash starts over, maybe, if it will start again. Where is my short or broken wire? does anyone have an idea? Thanks for any help
