My son picked up a 2001 6-spd vette yesterday; since I'm the one that likely will end up doing some of the work on it, I thought I'd better sign up here.
Not a GM/vette guy myself; Over the years I have owned and worked on: Ford LTD, Dodge Dart, Corolla, Celica GT, 300ZX, Grand Am, Sable Wagon, Toyota pickup 2X4, 2 Pathfinders, 2 Foresters, 2 Jeeps, 2 Intrepids, Mustang GT, and a Magnum R/T. My current ride is a Tacoma DC Sport 4X4.
Carfax was clean, but I'm sure that it has had body work done. Left front fender doesn't quite line up to the headlight panel, and left rear QP looks like it's been painted. Salesguy at the dealer gave me the BS line about replacing the headlamp for a failing actuator;
It's got 17K miles on it; seems to track straight and doesn't pull either direction. Engine seems fine, but rear end sounds a little clunky, but maybe that's normal on these things; don't know. In any case, there was no way I was going to talk him out of it...by the time I got to the dealership, his eyes were already glazed over.
I will check out the forums for tips, but feel free to chime in with any known issues that should be checked.

Paul,
Welcome to the forum! Congrats to your son for his acquisition as well. How excited is he?
