'New' C5 Owner
My dream has finally come true - past the jeering and naysayers I, at long last, own a Corvette! She's black on black on blickety black, but is rather unknown and I have some questions.
INFO:
Bought from a dealer who got it at an auction, so nothing much is known about it.
Sounds like it has a cam - how to be sure?
It has a manual transmission.
2004 with 65,000 miles.
Maintains 180 degrees in any kind of traffic in 90+ degree weather.
Running Exxon 93 octane.
It has a KnN intake, American Racing headers, Magnaflow exhaust and no cats as far as I can see from the ground - sounds cool but stinks to high heaven - not inside, thankfully.
Makes good power - to someone who has never driven anything near to this - goes real smooth when past 2000 rpm.
Gets good economy around town - 17mpg and cruises at 29mpg lugged down at 70 in sixth (1500 rpm).
Code says the MAS has too high a voltage - have read this is a common tune to bypass the MAS and go to the 'speed table'(?).
It doesn't like to be below 2000 RPM - not real tractable and bucks if not given enough throttle at those RPMs - idles well enough (1000 rpm), just a bit NHRA'ish, not that it doesn't sound "bitchin' ".
No other significant codes except P0103 H C = Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor Circuit High Frequency
Getting to a speed shop is proving difficult as they seem to all operate 9-5 M-F - how about 11-7 Tues-Sat, guys? I am in San Antonio. I am considering purchasing a Diablosport tuner.
QUESTIONS:
Would like to try reflashing the computer to stock myself but:
1. If it does have a cam, would this be a problem?
2. It seems most tuners need to first store your car's current (stock) tune - I don't have that with this car - would the tuner have this already?
Can the MAS bypass (theory?) cause an idle and other characteristics that seem like it has a cam when it doesn't?
Thanks ahead for any help I my get.
Having a blast with with it!
* by 'cam' I mean a cam other than stock.
