Default Hello, I'm New

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum. Long time 'Vette fan, and finally got the wife to green light a C3 'Vette build. Haven't bought a car yet, and probably won't pull the trigger until the Spring of '15. (Wife's conditions were we need to get a house before I buy the car... which kinda makes sense I suppose).

I've got my heart set on an '80-'82. Can't make up my mind which I want to go with--mainly because I haven't figured out if I want a 4 speed car or the slush box. Regardless, the plan is to ditch the factory hardware and stuff a more potent mill in there and a modernized gearbox, whether its of the DIY variety or Electronic Auto. But with that comes all the other questions, do I want to keep it carb'd or do a fuel injected setup (LS conversion cough cough)... I don't know... my dreams are significantly larger than my wallet...

I'm looking to build a driver. Something I may thrash around the track on an off weekend, but predominantly raise a little hell with on the streets, and take the wife on a pleasure cruise to keep her blessing on the project. I prefer a stock appearance, but it'll most likely get stuffed with dynamat, a quieter exhaust (flowmaster 50 series or equiv.), and retain features such as air conditioning and any creature comforts we'll realize we miss as soon as they go away. So my goal here is to learn from you guys about what works, what doesn't, and to learn "what I really want".

A little about me: I'm an engineer for 1 of the "big 3" Have worked for 2 out of the big 3, and my little claim to fame is I have never worked on a "slow" or "mediocre" vehicle platform... only "the big boys". I'm quite knowledgeable about the hows and whys of cars. Have decent wrenching skills, do alright in the ghetto fabricating department.

Past Projects were AMF era Harley's, 2nd & 3rd gen F-Bodies, dabbled in the 4th gens but decided the "plastic fantastic" wasn't my cup of tea, and then dove into old Ford trucks. From all of my past projects, I have learned that insight from the local subject matter experts is critical. That being said, I think I'm ready for this 'Vette! Looking forward to meeting the guys around the forum and getting this project rolling!

Cheers

Welcome to the forum and good luck with your build! I would sometime like to do the same thing as you, C3s drip sex appeal IMO

Let me take a moment to hijack your thread and network a bit I too am an engineer for one of the big 3, but I'm not particularly happy with how things operate around here. I would LOVE to get onto the teams that work on the performance oriented vehicles in any of the 3. If you're willing, would you mind shooting me a pm and we could talk a little more? If not no worries

Again, good luck with the search and build. Welcome to the forum

That's awesome. Perhaps one of these days we'll have a discussion about the 'glory days' when. These C3's were new. It was before my time, but I perceive it to be a good time that the world currently doesn't know.

Thank you everyone for the welcome!
