Default New C6 Seeker Here

Hello Corvette World

I'm primarily a bike guy and I expect I'll be that way forever, but I also enjoy a nice car. My wife more so. We used to travel by bike for vacation but one trip where she was rained on over and over arriving time after time looking like a drowned rat put paid to her two wheel travel enjoyment.

She decided we'd travel in a car so she looked around and bought a Porsche (modern) 911. We used that for a few years enjoying the experience and I have to say that travel where we're out of the weather and able to chat was a treat compared to the bikes (which we still use and which are my DD).

After a bit, we swapped the 911 for a Cayenne TT to just to experience the large car travel and also to try the idea of having a 4 x 4 when we arrive somewhere to explore mountain roads, etc. The Cayenne has been nice but not comfortable as an off road vehicle. Yes, it does it well and is an astounding handler for a 5k lb car, but it's, well, it's so luxo that I never have felt I belong in it. It's sort of what I'd expect a person used to luxury would use when he wanted to go really fast.

Anyway, an old spinal injury (broken back partly fixed) had me in for a major surgery where my PT is walking. This AM I walked by a lot with a nice C5 in it and I thought, hmm, that looks great getting back into a 2 seater again. I mean, something about being disabled then major surgery and then recovering has made me wish to sample all I can while on this earth.

Before I met my current wife, I had a C4 and enjoyed it but I was forced to sell it due to family growth / need for a SUV, etc. That's long history. Today I can buy anything I can afford.

Anyway, the passion I developed looking at that C5 has morphed into a desire for a C6 to replace the Porsche turbo. I'm wondering if some of you experienced hands can point me to a comprehensive guide as to the major issues and what to look for in this model. I do have the Black Book showing all models but that's just tech. I'm looking for a broader owner's POV sort of guide with notes for any issues which are chronic gotchas. For example, in Porsches, certain models of the 996 era have an intermediate shaft which can grenade taking down the entire engine.

That sort of stuff. Also what the driving experience is like in the C6 variants. Sure the Z06 is faster but is it that much faster for the street (no track days planned)? Does the ride get really harsh with XYZ suspension upgrade?

That sort of stuff. Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks all. I spoke to my wife this AM with my 'Vette idea and she's onboard big time. Since she's the Porsche enthusiast, this means that, barring any big surprises, a new for us 'Vette is in our future.

I'll wander over to C6 now and ask a few specifics. Nice to be here.
