I have had several muscle cars in my 20's mostly of the Pontiac variety with my favorite being a 71 GTO convertible with the 455HO. Always loved and wanted a Corvette but being a 2 seater with kids was never very practical, so it just sat in the back of my mind waiting for "someday". A dozen or so years ago I started an enclosed motorcycle moving company which does very well, so well in fact that people asked me to move some of their specialty cars from north to south in the fall and back to the north in the spring, so I bought a 6 car enclosed and then it happened...I got the call to pick up a C3 Corvette, a 69 Hardtop/Convertible with 427 4 speed being handed down from father to son...stunning car! Just sitting behind the wheel I knew it was a C3 I needed for myself. That was 3 years ago, Ive looked at a few but never came across one that screamed "buy me", until about 3 months ago, a yellow 77 L82 came up on craigslist, it was owned by an elderly gentleman who was selling the property where he stored it, so he was selling his toys as well. The car had 134K on it the motor and trans were rebuilt at 99K and he estimates HP to be about 425...I took it for a test drive and have no reason to doubt him, that thing was crazy quick! After spending the better part of an hour checking it over and talking to him I asked the question "how much is it gonna take to have me come back with my trailer and take her home and take real good care of her?" I almost died when he said "well you are the 3rd person I have shown it to and the 1st that I would actually sell it to, so how about $3400?' I said "DEAL" and now she sits in my garage just waiting for spring!
Welcome! At that price you seem to have gotten a deal! Best of luck with the C3. Check out the C3 section for any questions and all of your latest C3 related chatter.
The man I bought it from kept the car inside since he bought it in 1997. At that time he went through the motor, transmission, brakes, body and interior. (car was blue on blue) Frame is relatively clean (just surface rust, but very solid) I found the 2 rear body mounts that need to be replaced and the rear looks to be leaking oil. Not sure if I like the side exhaust yet as they leak where the headers and side pipe connect and are lacking heat shields (he explained they leave a nasty burn when you don't pay attention when getting out of the car) The interior just needed a good cleaning, seats, door panels, and carpet are all in good condition, the dash has 1 crack in the center. The heat/ac controls need attention as well. It came with a 1 piece lexan roof and painted t-tops. Oh yeah and lets not forget the dreaded heater core leak(yes it is an ac car) and its bypassed for the moment, but being almost winter here in the Northeast, she is in the garage and will not see the street until next spring!
Interior is decent carpet is torn in front of drivers seat
door panels are good, doors open and close nice and easy
the rear is wet, although the frame appears to be rusty, its nothing more than surface rust and will get some attention and paint next spring.
the engine compartment needs some detailing, but engine was rebuilt with high performance parts. Hoping to get some paperwork on what has been done from previous owner, he says it has a high lift cam, roller rockers, Edelbrock intake and carb, timing gears instead of chain and Hooker exhaust.
even came with color matched t-tops as well as the 1 piece lexan roof
