1986 - My First Corvette
The car was in storage about 4 years while the divorce went through and I finally got a chance to retrieve it this autumn. Four years of non-driving isn't good for any car, then add to it the ex went and broke the ignition switch, so a buddy who has a trailer helped me. He also has a shop with a hoist (a real GOOD buddy I've known for over 30 years), so after thinking the ign sw was the culprit, no start. VATS? Tore the dash apart and traced circuits - that was OK. Starter. Damned starter was bad. But even after 4 years sitting, it started right up!
So I have started a list of things I want to do to it. My current girl at first accused me of owning a mid-life car, a girl-chasing car. Meh -- I don't need a CAR to get laid! But it's grown on her, even though she has yet to ride in it. I've put only a couple hundred miles on it, and now winter will set in soon. This will be my first year having it without a garage, so outside storage is a puzzle for me to solve. I'm renting a house, and moving, at the moment, isn't in the books.
It's good to have the blue profile of a C4 sitting out in front of the house.

My "fix/modify" list is growing daily.
Usually after A ride I'd hit all the rubber with armor all, a thin layer of wax on the chrome or paint. throw a blanket over it and then a double layer of plastic or tarp over it and then wrap a rope around it so the cover doesn't get blown off, I always started them about evry two weeks to let the fuel idle through the carbs and if it didn't get ridden for those two wks. It had a trickle charger attached for 5-7 hrs. after the idling session. I've been doing this since '97 with an enduro and now do it w/ 3 bikes I of which I won't let go ,lol. I never had a starting problem or other issue other than some rain spot on the wheels.
I just bought my 1st vette < 3wks ago and am going to have it outside until I build something garagelike for it. I have a car cover on it & the sun now isn't as strong as in spring/summer so I have some time to get something like a carport built . The weather enemy here in Fl. is the sun as it will burn up anything. My front bike tyre usually dryrot sooner than I wear them out. My '96 cougar has just started fading and it gets waxed almost every 3 wks.
I have an early '86, so slow windows, cast iron heads, but I'm still happy with it. I'm torn between getting more performance mods (headers, Lingenfelter heads or similar, no bottom end stuff at this time) or working on the interior. Seats are the sport model, and they're showing their age. The horn button tends to blare the horn when it's sat in the hot sun for a while -- weird. But it runs and drives well overall.
