New C5 owner in TX
After a lot of consideration, I decided on an auto trans and coupe model. Whatever I got was going to be modded, so I wasn't willing to pay the premium for the Z, and the only kind of racing it'll see is drag racing so I opted for the auto trans not only for that reason, but also so the wife could drive it should that need arise. Convertible was out of the question for me, just not my style, and it's heavier/not as rigid a structure.
Finally found a good looking C5 with low miles for the right price in a good color and configuration I wanted, and went to go check it out. Car was in excellent condition, brand new eagle runflat tires (not a fan of runflats, had them on my G8GT and the ride/traction sucked, but they're new and expensive as hell so they're staying a while, lol) and already had a couple mods (SLP Blackwing intake, Borla stinger axleback exhaust, and Z06 calipers). Interior was very clean, looks like it has the Lloyd's floor mats, and a cover for the top that hangs from the hatch in the rear. Been doing a lot of reading on here, and learned it has the 3.15 ratio diff, so I'm pretty happy about that. Was also happy to learn the '01's already had the LS6 intake, so that saves me a little more money not having to replace it later on.
Just ordered some Brakemotive drilled/slotted rotors w/ceramic pads off ebay for front/rear today, rotors on there now are warped pretty good and you can feel the pulsating in the brake pedal coming to a stop. Read good things about the brakemotives (was hesitant to buy a set of brakes that were $166 shipped for all 4 corners, lol) in a google search that led me to here and ls1tech, everyone seemed satisfied. I need to replace the swaybar endlinks (they're shot, and the plastic crap), and rear tie rod ends. Still trying to decide if I should hold out for Z06 swaybars, or just buy the energy suspension swaybar bushings for my current bars (regular FE1 stuff). I suppose it's only $20 and should help some until I upgrade. Coming from 3800 series II W/H body cars, it already handles worlds better than what I'm used to, lol.
Will eventually get heads/cam and all the good stuff that goes along with that, but I'm gonna stick to making the payment mod for a little while and just maintain and enjoy the car with the bolt-ons it has now. Love driving it, overall great driving experience: view from the cockpit, interior sound, seating/shifter position just feels right, power isn't bad at all, and coming from a ~3800+ lb vehicle this thing feels very light at ~3200 or so.
Great forum and I'm glad to be a part of it, 99% of the time I google search something, a link to corvetteforum is at the top! Also my first time posting pictures, not sure how they're going to come out.
