Default Hello from far Eastern New Mexico...

Recently acquired a 1981 Corvette; a gift from the wife for my 50th birthday. New to Corvette ownership, but not new to Corvettes; I worked part-time for a shop that specializes in Corvettes, while I was stationed in Japan, for about 9 years. The popularity of the Corvette in Japan is overwhelming considering the road network there. But I learned a lot working on them and that fueled my desire to own one someday.
The car we picked up was a daily driver, titled all it's life in Texas, but had been sitting on jackstands in a barn near Lubbock for the last 3 years. Previous owner only recently got it back in road worthy condition to sell it. Looking forward to performing a little reconditioning to it and enjoying it as an occasional driver. I'm sure, as other car specific forums, there is more than enough experience to glean information from here.
Besides the "new" Corvette I also have a few other toys, a 2001 Trans Am WS6, an 86 Trans Am WS6, a 78 Z-28, an 88 IROC, and a 2011 Charger R/T...so I have plenty of things to keep me busy.
Edit: I guess we're supposed to say a little about ourselves... I'm retired in 2010 from the Air Force, just shy of 27 years (3 of that in the Army). Lived most of my life overseas, was stationed most of my career overseas (Philippines, Japan, Korea (3x), and Germany), continuously from 1987 to 2005 and again 2008 to 2010. I'm married (but divorced 2x), 4 kids (1 boy out of college, 2 girls in college, and one boy who might be alive to graduate high school this year...if he's lucky. I'm a car guy, love my GMs and my MOPARs. Own too many guns (according to my oldest daughter). I'm now a field engineer for one of the top defense contractors, currently working on RPAs. Although I'm retired, I still find myself in places that we were told we'd no longer be in for extended periods of time. That's about it...
Thanks for reading...

Welcome from a '72 owner! Your car looks great, and a very pretty color at that!

"Far Eastern New Mexico" sounds like it is near Las Cruces or closer to El Paso. Lots of Corvettes out that way. Many enjoy racing at Arroyo-Seco. Have fun!! And congrats.

Thanks! I was surprised I was able to find such a clean example.

Las Cruces is more south-central NM. I live in Clovis (unfortunately), which is only 10 miles from the Texas border; 100 miles northwest of Lubbock, Texas...

Thanks! The color was a large factor in choosing this particular car.

Color usually is always one of the biggest factors for me too. Great find!

Interesting that you say that; my 1970 Mustang was white but is a similar blue that I had painted.
