Howdy - will be ordering my 2016 Z06 as a birthday present for my wife in mid-March and will likely have tons of questions - some of them stupid and/or obvious, so go easy on me - and I'm very excited to be here!

Welcome! Hopefully not an apology Z06... You must have been a very bad boy to need to spring for one of those. Not on the level of a 4M Kobe apology ring but way more than flowers and a nice dinner.

Oh no, it's definitely not an apology present. She's the type of wife who is very pragmatic, so expensive jewelry and flowers and such don't mean as much to her. She likes things like Dysons and dirtbikes. That's her picture in my avatar, so since she can't ride dirtbikes or rock climb, this is the next best thing.

I've been building cars out left and right, won't be able to pull the trigger until probably the end of March, which I'm told is pushing it for the custom range. However, if I'm spending $115k plus on a car, I want it to be the EXACT car I want, not something someone's trying to get off the lot.

The biggest problem we're running into right now is she really wants the Z07 package, but we have a steep driveway and the ground effects may be an issue. At this point, a regular Z06 has just the rubber rockers in the front do a slight scrape with a lot of backing and filling, so I'm thinking we may actually have to get an apron poured to level out the angle so she doesn't scrape when she backs in. Thoughts?

Awww, don't romanticize it too much, man. She gets ticked off if I spend money on things she thinks are nonessential (like more than one XBox or more tools of the kind I already have). She's just never been the kind of lady who wants to be dripping in jewels or have expensive clothes or shoes or bags (although lately she's been eyeballing a bit more expensive purses than her usual $30 leather ones).

She's the one who wants a really good vacuum or a really good set of cooking pots and pans. She was so excited about the pots & pans set I got her for Christmas one year, she got teary eyed.

She sits down with me and installs laminate floor, or tiles a kitchen, or takes apart the stupid freaking carburetor of my damn B&S pressure washer because her front bricks are turning green.

Which IS all cool stuff, but sometimes you want to buy your lady something pretty and girly and expensive and she's like NO I DON'T WANT A TWO CARAT DIAMOND or NO DON'T BUY ME A TENNIS BRACELET THING WITH EMERALDS.

So if I buy her this - it's pretty (let's face it, the 'vette is pretty), it's girly (because she wants white), and I get to choose every single option on it. Her ONLY request for this car, which is freaking hilarious, is that she really really really wants air conditioned seats because she's never had them before.

That and she's going from a clapped-out 2003 Dodge Ram Hemi 4x4 to this thing makes me feel super proud. We have a 2008 Yukon Denali with all the bells and whistles but since I drive 50+ miles round trip in the DC area and the truck gets around the same gas mileage as a Sherman Tank, she can have a "daily driver" that's a beautiful, fantastic thing (just like her) and also (shhhhh) I get the sportscar of my dreams.

I have so so so many questions about which options (so far all i know FOR SURE is I want the 3LZ package) I truly just don't even know where to start. Can you guys give me some pointers on which forums to go into to ask things like: all glass top? Which one? Do I absolutely have to get ground effects with the Z07 package, which she wants for the performance (she can handle a sportscar) but will be a helluva a problem with my driveway? Do people reeeeallly care about the color of the brake calipers? (She likes black, I like yellow, but seriously?)

Please halp. I have no problem admitting almost total ignorance about the Z06 other than the Corvette has been my dream car since I was 15 and I'm 45. And yes, it most definitely is a car I'm buying for her, but she told me, "I know this is your dream car and while it's technically "my" car, you can drive it whenever you want as long as it's not more than me."

Not saying he is not a lucky man but whose wife here would not accept a $115K Z06 for her birthday.

And GKL2016 I don't think your neighborhood association allows you to pour a new concrete driveway with a lesser grade. You are just going to have to buy her a new house with a better driveway to go with that Z06.

Heh, we've got a damned decent house as it is. The driveways on our pipestem (as in, not on county maintained road) range from gravel to asphalt. Ours is the latter. I can't imagine getting it re-angled would cost much more than, say, $5000? Otherwise, we could always do this...

Although I imagine the neighbors miiiiiight have a fit about that. It's a pretty snooty neighborhood.
