Just received a 81 vette from my wife for my 50th. Newbie to the Vette family. Stupid question. Trying to find out if I have an early production 1981 or a late production. Production date is 12/80. Thoughts? I am sure I can figure it out via my vin #, but how would I know?

Welcome to the forums!
Typically the new Model Year production starts somewhere between July and September, so with a December build date you may actually be closer to "mid-year" production.
The Corvette Black Book says the 81 Vette was the first model year to be built simultaneously in two locations. The first Corvette was completed at the new Bowling Green Ky assembly line on June 1, 1981. The last Corvette built at St. Louis was completed on August 1, 1981.
Last 6 digits of the VIN for the Vettes built at St. Louis were 400001 thru 431611. Last 6 digits of the VIN for the Vettes built at Bowling Green were 100001 thru 108995.
