I've recently retired, I am 62, and I'm considering fulfilling my lifetime dream of owning a Corvette. I'm most interested in getting my feet wet with a 2000 to 2004 Vette. I'd like the coupe with low miles, automatic transmission (I had my left ankle fused due to MANY old sports injuries) and a light color (silver or white) or torch red.
I've heard that the digital dash display can be problematic on the older cars. I'm looking for somewhat carefree ownership. I now reside in the Adirondack Mountains of New York State so I'll only be using the car in the late spring, summer, and early fall. It will be stored in my garage when not in use.
Any help you can offer me would be greatly appreciated.
Welcome to the forum and good luck with your quest.
Others will chime in --
you'll want to begin your search with a 2001 and newer model --
some parts on the earlier models tend to be non/existent or in short supply.

Welcome to the forum!
Be sure to look for the lowest mileage, newest model year within your budget, and many lower mile C5's can be found in the states where winter means "Corvette hibernation."

Thanks!
Do it! I bought my first Corvette (a 2000 Corvette) over the summer. It's such a fun ride. I didn't realize until after I bought mine that 2001+ model years have more parts available, but I don't think you'll run into major problems either way. The only things I would look out for are: make sure the unit you want to buy was repaired/recalled regarding the anti theft locking up the steering column (other members can provide more information than I can), new water pump (water pumps seem to be junk on these cars--no big deal--they aren't too expensive), and see if the left side (?) of the differential was repaired as they tend to leak and can be expensive. Other than that they are great cars. Good luck!
