Overdue Introduction
My name is Jacob, and I bought my 2008 Crystal Red Metallic base coupe June 28, 2014. It's a 3LT with base suspension, Bose, automatic transmission, 2.56 rear, wonderful cashmere interior. And 147,000 miles.
First thing I did was replace the sway bar end links. Then I purchased a Z06 airbridge for some sound.
Then the starter needed to be replaced.
I added Z06 mufflers by sawing off, swapping, and welding the over-axel tubes. I retrofitted a Grand Sport NPP controller to give factory control to the butterflies.
Next, the alternator gave out, so I replaced it.
More sound was necessary, so with the aid of this forum, I added the full Z06 exhaust. Since this is an A6 I fused the very back of the stock mid-pipe with the Z06 mid-pipe. Wonderful sound.
Then the radiator developed a leak, so it got replaced.
Lots of enjoyment ensued, many trouble free miles at this point. But suddenly it developed a miss accompanied by a chirping noise from the top end. Tear down revealed the exhaust lifter on cyl 6 had collapsed and the roller and cam lobe were a little beat up. So I decided on a mild cam upgrade. 224 .578" 118+3 kind of mild. CamMotion of course. Springs, pushrods, new LS7 lifters, and 0.040" head gaskets to bump up to 11:1 CR. Ran like a champ. Nice little bump in power with 6850 rpm shift point.
I bought a suede centennial edition steering wheel with the Bluetooth buttons and programmed an arduino to interpret the buttons and control the bi-mode exhaust. Stealth.
Got about 6,000 miles until a valve spring broke. Intake on cyl 2. Of course the valve dropped and broke apart in the cylinder, because I knew I didn't need dual springs. And of course this all happened while showing out to a lifted and loud and slow Toyota Tundra. Serves me right for being an ***!
So what do you do when you need to pull the engine and have machine work done? Build it bigger and better! So it became a 418 with a new 230/234 .612"/.595" 117+0 CamMotion grind. Dual springs this time around.
And now here I am at 203,000+ miles. It's broken in now with a few hundred miles on it. And I'm in the process of tuning it, and so far it pulls like a freight train

I'm Jacob and I'm 25. I do my own wrenching with my father as my gopher. I owe credit to the incredible minds of this forum for my knowledge of this car, and I hope to be able to contribute to others when help is needed.

Also, I appreciated all the dirty talk. Greasy, dirty. I can follow most of it. My 1990 Firebird heard a lot of dirty talk a number of years ago. It's going to be fun starting over with my new C3. It will come back to me, I'm sure. It'll be nice to have your knowledge around! Don't make your dad gopher too much, he's getting old and tired. Unless you're giving him driving time, then it might be fair...
