The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
So I had been looking around for a C5 for a while, and it had been a couple weeks or so since I had last seen one that I liked, and I was getting kind of antsy, and then one evening an Electron Blue coupe showed up online. The few pictures looked great, but the details were kind of sketchy. I called the dealer to find out if it had an automatic transmission, and the guy who answered the phone didn't seem very knowledgeable, but after a significant delay, he finally tells me that it does. The next morning I decided to drive there (30 minutes) and see it in person. I was so excited that I didn't even think about calling first. So I get there, and I'm looking through the lot for a blue Corvette, and I don't see it. A helpful salesman soon emerges from the building and asks if I need help, and I tell him what I'm looking for. He looks it up on the computer, and tells me that it's in the shop for service and it will be ready in half an hour. I don't have anything else to do, so I wait. As promised, the car is finished, and the salesman grabs a dealer license plate and we head out to the car. It's beautiful. While the salesman is putting the tag on the car, I hop in the driver's seat and immediately discover that it's ... a 6-speed. So I tell the salesman that I'm really looking for an automatic, and I haven't driven a manual in 20 years. Then he offers to go on a test drive, anyway, and he'll do the driving since he has been driving a manual recently. The drive is great, the car is great, and the salesman tells me that he has never driven a Corvette before, and he likes the car and wishes he could buy it! I think he meant it. So, I didn't buy a Corvette that day, but I just might have turned that salesman into a Corvette lover!
