Some sucker in AZ
So I’ve stumbled into this little adventure in kind of foolish way.
Here is my new baby. She’s very much a driver (a 10 foot car, if you will). Various dings and chips and behind the scenes evidence of some repair work on the driver side rear quarter panel. She’s a Chicago car that I purchased from ProTeam in Ohio so the underside is.....decorated. The engine is a non-original 327 and the interior seems pretty well together.
I was drawn to her because I want something I can drive and drive and drive....and the price on it’s face seemed like a great deal. (Full disclosure. I paid 40k for her and I do know that you get what you pay for). I also did some research and saw the reviews on ProTeam but with their 48 hours money back guarantee it was worth the shipping gamble to me.
The instant she arrived I took her in for an inspection. The guys at the shop found:
-Missing the rear parking brake cable
-Oil Pressure sending out unit line leaking
-Fan Clutch worn out
-All Front end bushings need replaced
-Battery tray in bad shape (<—-THIS COMES UP LATER)
-Valve covers leaking
-Upper and lower ball joints need replacing
-All shocks need replacing
-Rear diff heads to be resealed
-Tansmission and gear box needs to be resealed
-Front u joint on main axl needs to be replaced
As far as the Chasis. The shop manager said it’s complete crap. But the guys who looked over the car said it looks sound and while surface rust can hide cracks they can’t find any evidence so a good blasting and coating would do it some good.
So I’m still in my 48 hour window and thought it’s best to get a second opinion, this time from a corvette specialist. Before I head out I see the original shop forgot to reinstall my air cleaner so I drive that direction and the whole car shuts off mid drive. All systems are down. So I call triple “A” and get it towed to the original shop because it’s right around the corner. Turns out, the the batter shifted in its crappy mount in such a way tha all kinds of metal was touching each other, welding the cable to the top bracket and frying the starter. They guys at the shop said they had no idea how the car didn’t just catch fire then and there.
Despite all of that, I decided to keep the car. The time I spent behind the wheel I had the biggest smile on my face. Sure she’s slightly sick. But I got attached and I want to love her, and fix her, and drive her.
I’m sure that I have a big stamp on my head that says sucker in regards to the shop. But she’s totally saveable and I think it’s time for her to retire in style here in AZ just like everybody else from chicago does.

Lots of great info for you in the C1/C2 section of the forum at https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-1953-1967-21/
Deja Vu when I saw your car in front of the shop. Looks like their original shop which was around Central and Indian School, I believe, although I think they added another in Mesa or around there. Loper's worked on several of my cars when I lived in Phoenix including a C2, C3, and C4 (and full disclosure - also an '88 Trans Am WS6
). I was always pleased with the work they did. I still remember Johnny and Cecil (?) Loper in the East a lot with their Gasser and Funny Car days in the 60s and 70s. Talented team. Hope you have many enjoyable years with your car.
