Not my first muscle car, but my first Corvette. I'm almost done with everything I can do to my 1964 Pontiac LeMans, so knowing I would be bored this summer, I started browsing Ebay and Craigslist for the next project. I found a clean second-owner '77 L48 4-speed in CT for $8K and thought what the hell, probably can't lose money on it. Before I bought it I did look at two pics of the interior when he had it apart for carpets a few years ago and it looked sound. It came with a pile of receipts and has been pretty well cared for by the local Corvette shops. I drove it home the other day, 165 miles to Maine, and when I got home, found the receipt that said the tires were put on it at 77,000 miles, in 1988! Juuuust a little bit crispy. It now has 97,000 miles, so it's been lightly used the last 30 years. It appears to bone-stock, except for one quirk - it appears to have a rock-crusher M22 in it. It has the classic gear whine through three gears that increases in pitch with every change and then goes quiet in 4th, and it drops about 500 rpm with each shift. Gonna get up under it and gather details tomorrow. Have a pile of questions, but will post in the appropriate areas. Glad you're all here, thanks in advance for all the advice I'm going to get!
