Hi, I'm learning as much as I can about C4s. Don't own one yet, but have been perusing the local for sale ads actively for a '85-'91 L98 with a manual for a year or so now. I need to find out what common issues to look for and what to avoid before purchasing, as well as where to find parts, which I'm hoping to find out from reading this forum.

Welcome and good luck in your search for a C4. The C4 General and Tech Sections are packed with information and knowledgeable members that can help you with any questions you may have.
So here it is. 4 years later, I finally found the Corvette that is the best for my purposes. It's not an L98, or a manual, like I originally wanted, but a 1996 A/T base. It's got 107,000 miles but with the recorded service history, I'd bet I could put another 100k on the clock. The engine runs like it's just broken in and the transmissions shifts like it's a new car.
My plan for it is to drive it to work a couple times a week and take on Saturday joy rides, so it's absolutely not going to be a garage ornament.
It's gonna need suspension bushings and shock absorbers, for sure, and definitely new ball joints which are the first things I'm going to replace. After that I have to figure out why the driver side window won't roll down.
I like that Green color but I’ve seen several of those with the clear coat baked off. I’d suggest keeping it out of the Sun as much as you can. Get a nice cover if you don’t already have one.
