I have it in the shop because the tach does not work at all, the mechanic tells me that this car did not come with one from the factory so he has to send the cluster in for repair. Why would only some cars have a filter and some do not? makes no sense to me.
Hello Jeff and welcome to the forum. I’m sure the folks over in the C4 sections will have answers for you. Best of luck. (No tech from the factory? I’ve never heard of any Vette not having one) That sounds odd to me. I’m sure the C4 guys/gals will know.
I am fairly certain that all '91 Corvettes had a tach as standard equipment. You might want to have someone who specializes in Corvettes take a look at your car.

Not sure why the mechanic says there is no tach.
Here's a picture of a 1991 dash (same basic layout for 1990-1996). As you can see, the tach is on the left, then the speedometer and fuel gauge in the center and then oil pressure, oil temp, water temp, and battery (top to bottom on the right side of the instruments).
May want someone else to look at your car. Any Vette clubs in your area?
