Hello everyone. I appreciate being allowed to join this awesome forum. My grandfather was the proud owner of a "Silver Anniversary" (I believe) Corvette that he truly cherished. He would take it out of the garage only once or twice a year, and after driving it for the day he would detail it with paintbrushes!
When he found out that he had to have a quadruple bypass on his heart, he couldnt stand to think that my grandmother wouldnt have the money to survive if he passed, so he sold off his prized possession, his Corvette. My question to you is, how would I be able to track this vehicle down? He died a few years back, and I was blessed to inherit his 1969 John Deere 112 "Patio tractor" that is still in all original condition (except for a starter and coil). I have a VIN, and I am in law enforcement, but it is illegal for me to run a VIN for anything other than law enforcement purposes. Does anyone have any ideas? I would love to at least know where it is now at days.
Welcome to the forum!
Sorry to hear about your grandfather and it's understandable you would like to track it down.
Obviously you would have a much better understanding of the legalities of different checks, but one method might be to check the VIN through CarFax. This won't tell you where the car is exactly, but it may show you when and where the car was last sold, and perhaps even service information on it. This could point you a little closer to it. Also, if you can find the general area the car is in, you could use the Regional Events section; https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-discussion-9/ and see if you can locate any Corvette clubs in that area. Contact them and ask them to spread the word about the car and why you're looking.
You could also try posting this information in the General section of the C3 forum at https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...s-1968-1982-5/. If someone on that site has the car perhaps they'll reach out to you.
Best wishes in your quest with tracking down your grandfather's car.
