I always told my family to kick me if I ever bought a Corvette. But then I met a 91-year old man with over 150 cars. Among them a 1-owner 1985 Corvette with 94,375 miles, stored since 1995. I have numerous German, British, Japanese, and Italian sports cars. It took me forever to find the wiper switch (!), so I'm in a whole new world now, where only one street tire exists for fitment to the original wheels! This is going to be interesting...
Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your C4!
You are correct, it is getting harder to find the 255/50-16 tires. On a couple of occasions, I ran 245/50-16 tires with no issues at all. Used to be a lot more varieties of tire available in that size.
I also put some 17" 1991 ZR-1 wheels/tires on an '86. If I remember correctly it took a small spacer on the front and nothing needed on the rear (I am sure someone in the C4 sections of the forum can advise on the size spacer needed). Of course, 17" tires are more plentiful.
Best wishes with your tire search.
Enjoy your ride and save the wave!
I'm used to the foreign sports car owners wave, the rarer the vehicle, the bigger the wave. I've never seen Corvette owners wave! In SoCal there are so many! I see people regularly driving 50s, 60s, and 70s Corvettes, almost daily. The later Corvettes are daily drivers. Lots of lady drivers of all ages as well. Guess I'll go to a gathering after I sort the fuel system, tires, top, and interior. Tiny battery, massive and heavy hood!
