Default 24 Years Later - Found and Bought Back My 1993 Corvette

I started working at GM/EDS back in 1992. Soon after, I bought a 1993 Corvette through the PEP program. Back then they pulled cars from the program when they were driven for 3 months or 3,000 miles, whichever came first. The group I worked for drove the car the 3,000 miles in just 10 days, then it was turned in. I actually rolled the last miles on the trip back to Lansing, MI, to turn it in. I bought it about a week later.

I only owned the car for 18 months when I sold it, just a week before I got married, but I always wished I had held onto it.

About 5 years ago I started a daily routine every morning, doing a quick check of a few websites (Autotrader, eBay, Craigslist, ...) hoping to find it for sale. I still had the sticker and VIN so I knew I'd be able to ID it. My wife agreed I could buy it back if I found it, but mainly because she said there was no way I'd ever find it. Over the last year I searched less frequently, maybe once every few weeks. I knew it was still in Michigan from an old CarFax I ran 5 years ago, but I failed to track it down through the dealership that sold it last (2 owners since I sold it to a broker in 1994).

This last June (2018) when I happened to run my search, I came across a 1993 green Corvette with a manual transmission that had just gone up for sale a couple weeks earlier. I didnít get too excited at first because I had found many over the years that turned out to be very similar (one was identical but the wrong VIN). I called a co-worker over to have a look, as he had been in on my search for the last 5 years. The VIN wasnít listed but you could see the license plate in one of the photos. A quick Google search gave me the VIN from the license, and it matched! After a few texts to the owner, I verified it was still available and only 2 hours away.

My wife and I drove out the next day (Saturday). I think she was in disbelief and denial. In any case, the car was in great shape (better than I could have hoped for), and only had 65,000 miles on it. We made the deal that day, and I drove it back home.

It's like going back in time.

Looks like it has been well cared for and a beautiful color combo - love the Polo Green color. Congrats on purchasing your old car for the second time and welcome to the forum.

Great story and I really like that color. Nice to see that the those that came after your original ownership took care of it.
