I recently picked up a low mile 04 in red. It's a blast to drive, except for the dreaded "service steering lock" bs(happened to me the second day I had it, what fun that was!).
I'll be checking the forum for technical info as proceed forward with this toy. I'll thank everyone in advance for my undoubtedly pestering questions!
A red and black corvette, my favorite. Try the Lock column mod (LMC5 from complianceparts.com). If you search in the C5 area you'll see it. It's an easy mod. Welcome to the forum.
As far as the lmc5 add on, I had read about it here yesterday. As a matter of fact, when I was getting ready to drive out of work and the column locked, I got out of the car and walked to where I could get phone reception and shade(it was 108 degrees). I goggled C5 locked steering. That brought me right to this forum where I found that if you wiggle the wheel while turning the key on, with a little luck, you'll free it up. It worked and the world was good again!
That is first on my list. I don't want to ever feel that sinking feeling of wasting a significant wad of cash on a pos again. Next up would be the wiper motor/module that decides on its own to cycle, which I read about here this morning. That explains why the fuse was pulled on the wiper circuit! I'm hoping replacing the motor/module will also park the wipers back down under the hood where they belong when not in use. Yes, the udders are all kinds of plugged with debris.
Once I remedy all the little gremlins, I'm confident that this car will be fun to own.
Grrrrr. It happened again. After work, the column lock stuck. I ended up having to loosen the clamshell and tap on the lock motor with a hammer and punch. I got it home and parked it where it will stay until my LCM5 arrives😖.
