Hello all! Since considering a Corvette, I've been browsing this forum for quite a while now. Traditionally I've been more of a Ford guy (multiple mustang's, including a 67 coupe) but I had an 85 K10 Silverado a while ago so I know a little about the Chevy life. Anyway, I was interested in getting something I can start dabbling in autox and SCCA stuff with and thought what better choice than a vette!
A couple weeks ago I picked up a 99 FRC (Z51 suspension / 6-speed) with 40k miles. The original owner is an older gentleman who did some autox and modifications. Typically I'm hesitant to buy a modified car but everything appears to have been done correctly and I like the choices he made. He states it has AFR 205 heads, a custom ground AFR cam, LS6 intake, headers, x-pipe and Z06 catback exhaust. It's also lowered on Koni adjustable shocks. He claimed the car dyno'd over 400 at the wheels years ago. I have never owned or driven an LS based car before and I must say, it is quite an experience. The bottom end torque is just unbelievable. It's not in perfect condition (some scratches, rockers are a little banged up) but I wanted something I wouldn't be afraid to drive, race, modify, etc. I got it for $15k so I don't think I did too bad for south Florida.
Anyway, here are a few pictures after I got it in my garage and of my first modification (MGW short shifter). I'm still working out a few kinks...hoping the oil sweat on the heads is nothing serious and wondering why I've recently been getting a low oil notification. There's no oil dripping and I'm definitely hoping it's not burning any. Guess I'll find out soon!
