Looking at C7 Z51 right
Hi everyone, just signed up here and would like to drop by and say hello.
First had the opportunity to drive a C7 in California on a trip, when my old man rented a convertible one. It was quite a joy to drive around, and I still remember my old man yelling at me for flooring it once at a stoplight. Did some research afterward and I learned quite a bit about them, and seems like it's a sports car at a great value with good handling and power.
Fast forward a bit, I am looking at a used 15 in 7-speed(I really like driving a stick) 2LT w/Z51 and magneride right now, but then I got to learn a bit more about the 6th Gen Camaro SS 1LE. The Corvette is faster in a straight line, but the SS 1LE is no slouch in terms of handling compared to the Z51. I personally have autocrossed before with my RX-8, and I am looking to step up and do some HPDE as well.
I am very torn right now with the decision and research has just made the decision more difficult. The new 19 2SS 1LE and 15 2LT Z51 are similarly priced at CAN$53k(US$37.5k right now). I am planning to do a test drive this weekend in the Corvette and the Camaro SS 1LE. Until then, if you have spent time in both, I would like to hear from those who have driven both before.
Thanks for having me here. I tried to sign up in the Camaro forum as well but still hasn't got approved yet.

Price seems pretty good as well with about 15k miles on the car.
Thanks!

You are looking at a couple of nice cars and you are correct, the Camaro SS is a good handling vehicle.. My preference would be the Corvette but you do gain extra space in the Camaro.
I think your approach of driving both, as close to back-to-back as possible, may help you with your final decision.
Best wishes, and let us know which direction you choose.

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
Leaning towards the Vette a little more now, but the scale has always been constantly tipping.

It was an interesting experience. I first went to see the Corvette, which was sitting in the showroom for a little while. The battery was dead, but they got lucky and the car roared to life. Someone then moved the car to the outside and then turned it off(or stalled it). That's when the battery finally gave up the ghost. They tried booster, didn't work; they tried to jump it, and I went to eat lunch during that time, still didn't work(see below); they then brought up a bigger booster with voltage readout and once I saw readings at 10V, I told them that they should just give it up and put a new battery in, which they did.
During the battery replacement, I went to see the Camaro SS 1LE, which was in another dealer. They, unfortunately, didn't allow for a test drive due to the low temperature outside. Honestly, it's a really great car as well, with great technology in the cabin, and the visibility is fine for me. It's not the best, but the Internet definitely has overblown it. The rear seats, however, are utterly useless for anyone over the age of 10. I am 5'9''~5'10'' and I cannot straighten the neck in the rear seats. I thought "heh at least I can have people in it for 15 minutes", well they ain't gonna last 5 before their neck kills them. I hope it finds a good home in the end, but I just decided it's not quite for me.
I then returned to the first dealer, and they informed me the new battery is ready(so I got a new battery as a part of the deal). I took it for a test spin, and it drove great. The auto rev match was awesome and worked like a charm. The power is instantaneous and plentiful, but I never found it to be scary(then again, I wasn't too wild on public roads with cold weather).
After that, I have decided it's the car for me. It's a better value with things I am looking for. It's a sporty car with a lot of unique things about it, just like my RX-8 did, and I look forward to communicating with everyone here.
I will be finalizing the purchase in the coming week, and I will be taking delivery next Saturday. Meanwhile, I will be sure to read the electronic Owner's Manual and I have a list of things I wish to add to the car. Nothing performance, just a few nice-to-haves.

Just yesterday I realized my clutch fluid is a bit low and dirty. Got some DOT4 fluid from the local Chevy dealer today, and replaced it with the Ranger method. Clutch felt a bit lighter when the car is still, I didn't take the car out for a spin right away due to the rain.
Meanwhile, I have an appointment booked next week to get the front end wrapped in some PPF to help reduce the number of rock chips.
Haven't driven around with the roof down yet, I am really looking forward to that.
