Dave, 1st Corvette wanted 1 for a long time.I bought a 1996 Collectors edition. Haven't used it much yet with all going on, but i have already done my fair share of wiping it down. It was basically a 50th birthday present to myself. The car has some neat upgrades like long tube headers, electric water pump. Did my 1st oil change. i have already learned a few things from this forum, also found the old owner who did most of the work, but he has not been on since 2017. Would love to ask him a few questions as he put about 30K on the car and appears to have done all the work. having troubles with the BBE mufflers working, but haven't really looked into it as they are stuck wide open.
Welcome to the Forum, Dave, and congratulations on your sharp C4!
If you can't contact the former owner, you might reach out to BBE; they've always been good to answer questions I have.
Sounds like you have a great neighbor!
Haven’t done the other side splash guards yet. Wife thinks it makes the car look better. Battery cover was on wrong, fixed that, added a new set of Bilstein shocks in the rear, fronts on order ride improved. New tires last week. Getting there.
Installed front shocks, Fixed the BBE mufflers with exhaust cut outs. What a difference the car is so much more refined when on, then wide open when off. It was a simple fix failed vacuum line took a bit to find. Next is the failed climate control module Seems 1996 with automatic Temp control is a 1 year module although 1990-96 looks same in pictures just different model numbers.
Not a bad season with the car. Having no mechanic I had to fix things myself. Had to do a battery and now keep on tender, starter hot lead came loose fixed that, biggest issue was the clutch slave cylinder. It’s external so not too difficult if Zip corvette sends the right part. I did that job 3 times as the old one worked just not well and was leaking probably because it had been loose on the bell housing. Whomever worked on this car previously was not a heavy hand the oil filter spun off when I put my hand on it. But I wanted a car that was old and I thought I could work on, I like it enough, it rips pretty good and it comes apart when needed.
