My "new" C3
Im new to the forum, new to the C3, not new to corvettes. The name "Mongoose" came from the joke that my cars were always great at killing Cobras. LS swapped 3rd Gen TA, Bolt on c5, Turbo GTO, Turbo C6, Stock C6z are the most notable cars.
I think a lot of us has had the situation that its time to "grow up" and get a house, so my last C6 had to go.
Even while having awesome cars, I always wanted a C3, the first car I remember drooling over was an Orange Stingray when I was 7 or 8 years old, and I could never get one so was stuck 3rd gen F-Bodies. Once I could get one I was looking for something a lot more performance oriented, so the C3 wasn't really even considered.
Being a dad, it became part mid life crisis(I'm 34) and part I want to teach my boys about cars. And let's be honest my wifes super sweet Focus or my XT5 (while nice cars) are not the most exciting car to work on.
Let me introduce you to my "new" 1980 C3. It is 100% original, L82, 44k miles. It has had the same owner since 84' and has all the dealer maintenance records with it,and is as clean underneath as it is up top. The tach does not work, so that is priority #1, other than that, I like any "character" that the 40 year old car has earned through the years. I bought it on Saturday after a long test drive and looking over it on a lift for about an hour, will be picking it up Friday.
My plan is to keep it pretty period correct, not make an major changes, but make it a little more fun to drive and enjoy the nice days with the T-Tops off(mullett to come)
Immediate Plans
- Fix Tach
- Replace spliter under front bumper (already ordered)
- Front Wheel Hub Covers (already ordered)
For the Winter
- Side pipes
- Mild Cam (400 lift or so)
- Upgrade the Rockers and Springs while in process
- Maybe swap out the quadrajet depending on how it handles the above
- Still undecided on rear louvers (I don't think it gets more 80's than that)
I look forward to learning more from the forum and getting some entertainment out of the site.

Sounds like some nice Summer and Winter plans for your ride. (Perhaps throw in driver's side seat leather and the interior will be first class).
Lot of great members and helpful info in the C3 sections at https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...s-1968-1982-5/.
Best wishes with your work.
