Default Yet Another New One

Hello All-I have been a lurker for the past year or so, mostly to read fireworks in the the ‘Off Topic’ political discussions, and of course most recently to learn about Corvettes. I have always wanted one, and I think maybe drove one on two occasions in my life. But family and career didn’t leave much room, so it took some years for me to spring. I’m a retired University Professor, altho most definitely not the stereotype liberal...an avid 2nd Amendment supporter.
My other interest is touring on a Big Dog K9 motorcycle, usually about 12-15,000 miles a year (until COVID). The guy I ride bikes with has a 2016 Z06 that is at about 850HP and scares me to death—-I have no such aspirations for my C7.......and he does have a nice shop to work on the toys.
Thanks to this forum, I was able to learn a great deal about these cars, in particular the C7’s. That info was invaluable in the search for an acceptable car, in terms of car options, pricing, and overall ‘goodness of fit’ for the purchase.
Wifey and I are both retired, and likes my involvement with the Corvette as it keeps me off the bike—(I hit an antelope at about 60 mph in NM last year and she worries).
Typical for me tp be wandering into a purchase as C7 prices are peaking—-haha. I had hoped to buy one from a Forum member, mostly because there is some sense of trust and the option to look at some of the car/owner history. But these guys don’t sell them very often, which confirms that owning one is a treat.
I finally found one in TX that was pretty much what I was looking for: a 2014 C7 in Arctic White, M7 3LT (w/Competition seats) I think the seats are Kalahari. It also happened to be a Z51, with NPP and Mag Ride, chrome wheels, and red calipers. More miles than I wanted, but no way that 40K miles is a deal killer—did I say one-owner car yet? I flew to Brownsville TX from Joplin Mo with a friend to drive it 900 miles home. Had a great Mexican meal down there and an uneventful ride home. The Corvette was awesome and there were no issues whatsoever except for my inherent lack of ability to use all of the technology available in the car..... I did figure out seat adjustments, HUD, and radio use (flash drive), and of course the cruise. Since then I have been learning a lot about it and the amount of data available is staggering..an amazing car.
I’m grateful to the members of this forum who fill the pages with all sorts of interesting information about these cars. I got the bug and read every day (wifey calls it my ‘Corvette ****’—haha). I am learning about various Michelin tire specs, wheel offsets, tow hooks (my car was biult 5/14 and they didn’t install hook receptacles in C7’s until 12/14–crap!!), ESP oil, device pairings, wraps for a glass top, the $350 software upgrade for the Z51 Mag Ride, (kudos to Jeff V.—he even offered to let me drive his updated Z51 to check the results) and a zillion other things—thank you all so much
I’m somewhat mechanically inclined, and with the guidance of the folks on this Forum, I plan to do the routine upkeep. Where else would there be such a trove of needed valuable information? How could one person ever learn all of this without such a resource? I’ll do an oil/filter change soon, and plan on installing a set of tires later this year as well (after I learn all about summer/AS and the several types of Michelins).
Looking forward to visiting with some of you in times to come—planning to attend some regional rallys and events.

Congrats on your purchase of a beautiful C7 and welcome to the forum. You live in my old stomping ground - I graduated from high school in Carthage. Did you happen to retired from Missouri Southern?

Welcome to the Forum, Professor Rick, and congratulations on your nice C7!
Sounds like you did a good job prepping for your purchase (which hopefully included spreadsheets. ).

Default Timeline on receiving my 2021 Coupe

Folks,

Again I have to say, I am not sure if this location is the proper spot I should be putting my schedule of events to obtain a 2021 C8.

My 2021 Coupe arrived at my dealer on 8 Feb, 2021. It seem that a lot of folks including myself are interested in timelines between deposit and receiving our new cars. This was my timeline:

Jan 2020: Gave a $1,000 deposit for a 2020 C8 Coupe
Mar 2020: Dealer told me he had submitted my order
April 2020: Found that the dealer submitted the order after the dead line.
June or July 2020: The dealer put me as #2 on his list for a 2021 C8
8 Dec,2020: Ordered the car and was immediately put on "3000 Order Accepted by Production Control"
8 Jan, 2021: Moved up to "3300 Order Selected, Scheduled for Production"
26 Jan, 2021: Moved up to "3400 Order Broadcast for Production (Loaded on Assembly Plant Computers)"
30 Jan, 2021: Moved up to "4000 Vehicle to Ship"
5 Feb, 2021: I am not sure of the exact day but I am within a couple of days. Moved up to "4150 Vehicle Invoiced" or "4200 Order shipped" I would get one number from the dealer and another answer from the Corvette Concierge.
8 Feb, 2021: My car was dropped off at my dealer. They were taken by surprise since they still showed "4150 Vehicle Invoiced". Early that morning I happed to drive by the dealer and noticed an car hauler leaving the dealer with ALMOST a full load. Two spaces were empty. Later that day I went to talk to the dealer and the car hauler had dropped off one Corvette, MINE.
10 Feb, 2021: Will pickup my new C8 assuming the weather cooperates.

Just to let you know, Once my 2021 order was submitted correctly, it only took about two weeks longer than it did with my 2015 C7. I got a hunch I was pretty lucky. Lastly, I should point out I got a Coupe and only three options, 2LT, Red Mist and Performance Exhaust (the sound makes me feel like a kid again).

Hope this information might be of some interest for those that are getting closer to obtaining their 2021 C8.

Thanks for listening to my rambling,

WAC1

Nope—I was at Pittsburg State for 30+ years. MSSU is a great school, tho, and doing well.

Welcome from your friend down in Waco. Although we've never met, I feel like I know you. Glad your trip and your purchase all worked out. I used to live in Alice for 16 years and worked various jobs. I'm kinda familiar with the territory down here.

Thanks for the update.

You Bet!! Next time we ride (or drive) to Dallas, we’ll come down to Waco and I’ll buy the first round.
