Hello from Arkansas! I'm really on here as a dreamer for the moment. I'm currently in general limbo in life right now, because I'm awaiting a stem cell/bone marrow transplant coming up in January. I've decided that my reward to myself after I recover will be a Corvette. Assuming I can get back to work as normal, I should be able to afford a C6, but I might possibly consider a C5 if it is the right deal. Either way, my requirements will be manual transmission and targa or fixed roof. I really prefer the C6, but the current generally crazy market for used cars is driving prices beyond reasonable levels.
As far as my car background, I'm probably one of the older-school hot rodders on here. I've had dozens of cars ranging from the mundane to the really quick. I have had 2 Corvettes - a 1969 ragtop with a 350 and a 4 speed, and a 1988 black on tan coupe. But those are long gone. Other notable past rides were a 1993 SVT Cobra Mustang, a 69 Camaro RS, two different 68 Camaros, a 73 Nova hatchback, a 65 Impala (first car), a couple of Porsche 944s, and a CJ7 with a 396 big block. I've worked on them all, and I am not afraid to get my hands dirty. I have a 2-post lift in my shop.
One thing that puzzles me is why many Corvette folks seem to be averse to higher mileage cars. I think a little different. I bought a 2008 4WD Suburban about 3 years ago and it was showing 148K on the ticker when I bought it. I've done some basic maintenance on it, including new hoses, spark plugs, and brakes. We've hooked up our travel trailer to it and taken off on two trips out west, to Arizona and California, and we never thought twice about it. Why would I expect anything different from a Corvette of similar vintage? So I'll probably save the money from buying a low mileage car and just plan on doing some maintenance.
So hello again, and I look forward to reading and learning for a while!
Welcome to the Forum from a former resident of Forrest City, AR!
I appreciate your positive attitude, "my reward to myself after I recover will be a Corvette"!
Best wishes with your search and hope soon after your stem cell/bone marrow transplant you have a nice, shiny Corvette in your garage!
Agree with your thoughts about mileage being a secondary consideration when it comes to your purchase.
So thank you for all your welcome notes! My stem cell transplant is currently scheduled for March, but as I had said previously, I wouldn't pass up the right deal on a C5. So I found one and bought it. It's a 2004 CE car with a 6 speed and pretty much every modification I would want to have done anyway. It is having column lock errors and EBCM messages, and hence I got it for the right deal. It also desperately needs new back tires, as the old ones are finished. It has an LS2 swap with an LS3 top end, and I can't find any reason to dispute the POs claim of 452 HP to the wheels. It has Corbeau seats and several other mods. Not much CE stuff is left except the beautiful LeMans blue paint and tan carpet and dash. But it's mine and I love it! C6 wheels to update the look.
