Hello Fellow Corvette Owners. I am new to the forum. Two years ago I bought an all-black 2008 C6 Base Model with the LT3 package and the flappy paddle 6-speed auto trans. First Corvette. I am a retired Aeronautical Engineer, and got my engineering degree by working as an auto mechanic in the late 1960's and early 70's. (Old Mopar guy, but don't hold that against me.) I am looking forward to learning more about the Corvette world and my car. Since purchasing the car I have taken the front end apart to install a new DeWitt heavy duty aluminum radiator due to cracks in the OEM glass-nylon side tanks. Also installed a new air conditioning compressor. Replaced the clear plastic headlight covers, which was an adventure. Replaced the transmission filter and oil, several engine oil & filter changes, new serpentine belt, new Michelin Pilot 4's, and all sorts of other minor necessities. I also replaced a non-functioning OEM radio with a Pioneer touch-screen AM-FM radio / satellite radio / Android Auto / Apple Carplay, including a license plate frame-mounted rear camera. Except for the radiator and the radio, the car is completely stock. Then sent the car out to have the faded bumper cover re-painted to match the rest of the car, and had the body shop polish and detail the entire car. it looks close to brand new now. The car has a few hundred miles over 80,000. The only problem I have now is a windshield cowl that with a split in the plastic on the right side of the windshield. That part does not seem to be available on the various GM parts web sites, and the problem is temporarily fixed using Home Depot black polyurethane roofing repair from a caulking gun. One can hardly see it unless one gets very close, but it bugs me and I would prefer to have the right part. Anyone have a good source of C6 windshield cowls?
I love the car and I am having great fun. I took the car on a 2500-mile grand tour from San Francisco to el Paso Texas to visit my US Army son at Ft. Bliss, then up to Wyoming to visit an old college roommate, then across WY-ID-NV and back to California. Great road car and so much fun in the twisties! Looking forward to following along in the forum and learning!
