Hi all,
I've spent the past few months lurking here so I may as well introduce myself as I'm sure I'll be asking questions soon.
We came into a 1986 coupe due to the death of my father-in-law. It was a project car that is technically being inherited by my son, though we'll likely have to buy it from the Estate. We're unfortunately getting it without even knowing the state of repair it was in at the time, what was fixed, or what was waiting for parts. It's not in the best of shape, but it'll make for a fun, cheap project car. Especially for learning how to do bodywork and painting, and fixing all the mistakes some prior owner made to it.
I've already owned an 86 Mustang and an 86 Camaro, so it's ironic that now we have an 86 Vette. I used to drag race and AutoX a 93 Ford Lightning that I heavily modified. But that was 12 years ago and I vowed never to get into a car project ever again. Well, I guess I can say I'm older and wiser so feeling more comfortable not getting into debt this time
As it was missing engine components, we're currently picking things up off eBay and other sites like the upper plenum. At 200k miles, we're aiming to get it running by this summer, then tear it down and pull the engine over the winter. So many random things are missing that we'll have to go to a car show just to take tons of reference photographs. Like how all the wiring in the nose corners is loose and missing brackets, causing the headlights to occasionally catch on a wiring harness.
200k miles on it. Originally bright red, now (we think) medium blue metallic. And in need of a whole lotta love.
In the Central Maryland area.

Welcome to the Forum!
It sounds like this C4 will make a great project-car bonding-event for father and son.
It appears your lurking time here has already introduced you to the great members and helpful info in the C4 sections that will help the two of you get through getting your son’s grandfather’s car up and running.
Best wishes with your and his efforts!

Welcome and good luck. I have an '86 in the garage, if you need a reference photograph of anything, hit me up! And that dash lights up nicely!

@Gixxerman Bright red is nice, but not my cup of tea at all The blue is fantastic, and is what generally look for in my cars. Blue, or orange
Thanks everyone.
The fun stuff comes next. While engine is apart we already removed the air pump and put in a delete pulley. It's missing almost all its vacuum lines, so we're tracking a YouTube video that shows every single line. The instrument panel looks great, but I think the numeric squares are supposed to be clear? You can only see the faint traces of numbers on the edge of the yellow squares. Plus, all the electrical gremlins ... No horn, wipers, turn signals, etc. And the brake light alights the turn signals 🤣 There's gotta be so many bad wires and grounds throughout.

Welcome and best of luck with the '86. The digital dash looks to be in good shape.

Cool, was just curious if you were restoring it all back to OEM condition
