Hello from NJ, a recent 'import guy' convert.
i'm a recent convert to the vette world. I'm still looking for my first in fact. After much research and waffling around, it seems you really can't beat the value prop. They seem to have a perfect mix of power, handling, and maybe above both reliability.
My wife and I daily a 2020 CRV Hybrid. My current show car is a Japanese imported, right hand drive, 1997 Honda Prelude Type S. It's 1 of 2 in the states that I know of (the only ones that have shown up at auction at least), as they were never sold here. On top of that, Honda only made ~3000 over a 4 year production run between 1997 and 2001. Insanely rare car. It's stock with 77k miles and staying that way.
Which leads me to looking for a fun car. My budget is right around 35k. The internet tells me 2002 to 2004 C5 Z06s are going to be in the sweet spot. I've been looking for a manual, 2010+ C6 with decent miles as well. I understand they're the sought after years, although 2008+ is also a valid target. I think C7s will be out of my price range.
What do you guys think? What would you end up in with 35k (and hopefully some left over for maintenance)?
EDIT: C7 w/ z51 it is. Didn't realize they were 'only' in the 40s. Super reasonable.

But am going to check out another 19k mile 02 z this weekend. Hoping that one is a winner.
Steering column lockout and finding out about regular maintenance are the big ones right?
here is one in pa, auto but damn near new

Does auto v manual it really matter? it's a huge deal in the import world. I'm hoping to run at NJMSP / autox with it, hence not being too particular about mileage. I'd kinda feel bad thrashing on a 7k mile vette. Are the paddle shifters in autos 'slow'?

For your questions about the C6 auto v manual and the speed of the shifts when paddle activated, you may want to ask in C6 General at https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-2005-2013-14/.
You may also try asking in the more race focused section at https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...roadracing-23/.
the paddles in my ats-v (when i had it) were pretty responsive

Thanks! Been great so far.
And this: although it's a repair title. Spoke with the owner a bit, it's been his daily for 5 years and is in apparently great shape. May go check it out this weekend
Any thoughts? What should I look out for? Is a repair title that bad? I've never had to deal with one.

good luck.
wait a few months when the ridiculousness ends and prices will drop down.
remember asking price is different than selling price.
everybody thinks their cars are gold. Access the vehicle and make levitate offers.
someone will usually surprise you.
id wait six months.
