I have to admit, I am new to Corvette's as of the past couple of months. I've been a long-time Mopar-head with a few classic Plymouths in my garage, but I've always admired Corvette's from afar.
I just finished a 69 Roadrunner A12 (440 Six Pack - 4 speed) frame off restoration that took every bit of 3 years to complete. Though the torque of a Chrysler big block is fun, the cost of parts for these old Mopar's is getting insane.$3500 for aluminum heads, $650 camshafts, and $2,300 crankshafts used to be the exception, but are now becoming the Mopar rule.
I just sold a restored '70 Super Bee and I do believe I'm going to start searching for a C6 or C7 Z06 in the near future. Parts to build a wicked LS powered Vette are almost one-third of the cost of a Mopar build.
I would have never admitted this even last week, but there's not much that sounds better than a .700 lift / +280 duration camshaft in a LS7.
Don't tell anyone over on the MoParts forum!
As for work.....I'm a 26 year veteran Policeman in one of Florida's most violent cities....I'll retire one day soon, but it's a difficult profession to hang up....for good.
Glad to be here. I've a great deal to learn from y'all.
First and foremost, thank you for your service. Secondly, welcome to the Forum. If you don’t yet have a Vette, this is a place to educate yourself and to have your questions answered. Heck, you may even find your LS7 dream machine for sale here. When you get one, be sure to zap us some pictures. There are probably some very good ones for sale in your area — mine came from Florida last summer. Stay safe!!
Welcome Chad. You mite want to look at a C7 ZO6, if it's a bear your looking for.
I also have a Mopar story. I came back from Vietnam 68. Started looking for newer ride. Pasted on a new load 396 Chevelle SS. Found a 1966 Belvedere 2D HT, mic. red white top red inter. Had, a factor, called it Police 383 4b duel points, heave duty radiator, EC 4speed pos. rear. Get this- stock 7-75 14", if ground was wet they wound spin.
Fix, put wider rims and 855's. Look like a grand national coming down the rd. Though it was peaty stout, then my co workers bought a 70's RR. 440 auto. We took them after work drove each. There's nothing like the shifting of auto. Felt like the car jumped 6' when it shifted !
Good luck with your search .
