Looking to buy
Good afternoon all,
Working a deal on a 2012 Chevrolet Corvette Z16 Grand Sport w-3LT w/48,050 miles. Dealer asking $35,889 plus fees.
Break down for OTD pricing was $43,748.31
Accessories: $1000 (shipping to me)
Protection Products: $3,500 (ASC 3yr/36k miles warranty Platinum Powertrain Coverage)
Sales Sub Total: $40,389.00
State taxes and Fees: $3110.31
Other fees: $249.00
Final Price: $43,748.31
Is the warranty worth it? Its had 7 owners, no accidents. How built proof is the Drivetrain?
I've never used an extended warranty.
What are your thoughts and is this a good price from dealer?

Welcome, and for warranty I vote is BIG YES, these cars get to be expensive when they break?
If your not at Chevy Dealership I would get it checked out, and it's worth price.
Good luck on the deal.

Welcome to the forum. I would certainly have the car checked over by a good Corvette tech. As for the warranty, as with any warranty program, it is a risk you take on whether or not things will go wrong and costs exceed the price of the warranty. I like to have a warranty on my car if nothing else for the peace of mind it offers. You may want to check with other extended warranty companies on a price.
I bought my used corvette at a dealer more than 600 miles from me. Im happy with everything except for the extended warranty they sold me. Reason being, since I cannot have the vehicle serviced at the dealer who sold me the vehicle i have to call and get pre approval for EVERYTHING. Im not talking about repairs, this is for service. This is the first vehicle that I bought an extended warranty on. All my previous vehicles I do 99% of the maintenance on. Thought it might pay off if I let my local Chevrolet dealership do all the maintenance. Even though they sell the same warranty I still have to get pre approval for EVERYTHING. The kicker is the warranty company does notwant to send me an email stating my ×××××× is approved. I have to argue with them to get my pre approval in writing. It really makes me nervous about filing a claim.
My advice is to ask for the warranty contract in advance, read it throughly and decide if its worth it to you.

I countered
I pay Warranty on a CC (-$3000) Don't want to finance warranty
They pay for shipping. (-$1000)
Asked for 5.5% off (-$1973.90)
Put price at $36,996.02 (if no taxes on shipping and I pay Warranty completely separate from Loan)
Lets see what the GM says.

Hi, Big Mike, from looking at your start date with the Forum, it appears that you are taking your time and are thorough.
Personally, I’m kind of on the fence about this type of warranty. Although it was on a home warranty, my MIL found out how difficult and slippery some of these places can be. With both things she tried to get covered, it was “improperly installed” and coverage was refused. Unless you suffer a massive failure, that $3k for the warranty may cover a large chunk, if not all, of a potential issue. I do commend you on not financing the cost of the warranty, however!
In order to get your (hopefully) car checked out, I would look to two places. I would look up Corvette clubs in SD and send one that’s closest to where your car is a query asking for the contact info of a reputable Corvette mechanic to check out this Corvette. I would also put in a question to the Mountain-Prarie section of the Regional part of the Forum asking for a reputable mechanic in that area of SD to check out the car. Hopefully one of those would yield a positive result for you. Others on the Forum may come up with even more ideas to help you. Best of luck and I wouldn’t let the shipping be a deal breaker — it wasn’t for me!
