Default Hot new item - easy and effective modification!

Hello!

I thought it would be more effective if I announced a new item outside of my normal weekly newsletter.

We have sold several 2002 Z06 upper air filter housings to owners of non Z06 1997-2002 Corvettes. Those who have installed them have described the installation as " the easiest mod on a C5." Further one C5 owner states: "It fits perfect. It works with a K&N filter or the stock filter. After 100 miles of agressive driving I can tell you that before the mod the power band felt linear to red line. After the mod the power band surges from 4500 RPM to redline.. The damn thing works and every C5 on the road needs this simple mod."

There you have it!

We are pleased to announce that we are offering this simple easy modification for $44.99 to forum members.

Light up the phone lines and call Bob or Tom in our parts department today at 406-628-4618!!

Have a great week and thanks for your business,
Ken Fichtner

Ken,

Is it the cover (on unit to the left) we see in the picture on the link below?
http://www.c5registry.com/2k2z06/photos/07l.jpg

If it is, I found it helpful to put a little soap on the rubber garments when replacing the cover. And as long as you have it off its a good time to install a K&N filter.

CALVETTE, its the cover on the left. I installed two, one on my 99 and one on a friends 99. Took me 15 minutes to do mine and 10 to do his. The hardest part was determing how much pressure to apply to get the assembly off the mounts at the front of the car. The rubber grouments pulled out of the OEM lid and stayed on the mounts took me a few minutes to figure that out. The new lid comes with new rubber grouments. I drove the car hard for a 100 miles to allow the computer to re-learn and all I can say is WOW. That was my post to Ken on the effects and benefits of the mod. My dealer quoted me retail $79 and sold it for $60, Ken's price of $45 is a steal.

Spread the word - every stock C5 needs this MOD.

Good luck

I used a wrench that came with my power saw (to take off the nut which holds the blade on) to pry up the grommets. Think of it as a tiny crowbar. Worked like a charm. There is no need to disconnect any of the things between the airbox and the throttle body. The old cover comes off (open the box, pry up the grommets and the cover comes with them), lube up the inside of the new grommets on the new cover (I used dielectric grease for that, same stuff used to keep your weather stripping in good shape), snap on the new cover, close it up and you're done. I put in a new GM air filter while I was at it. I also think putting on the hood seal would be a good idea, since that 2002 Z06 cover has a REALLY BIG opening in it.

I put it on a couple nights ago, and tried it out this morning on the way in to work. On the freeway, in second gear, I went WOT to shift over a few lanes. The car pulled so fast that I hit the rev limiter before I knew it. I'll be on a spirited ride this weekend so I'll be able to do some additional informal testing. So far, at Ken's price of $45, I think we are on to something :)

Thanks buddy.

This install was too simple.

I just did mine too, its easy and it the simplest and greatest mod when pair

I already had the hood seal just to keep things tidy under the hood so my install is complete.

I still can't believe how effective this mod is. I'm on a crusade - every C5 built needs this. Spread the word every chance you get. My club will be the second group I convert. The CF is the first.

Gee-Whiz, why didn't I think of that?

BTW, the GM part number for the '02 Z06 upper air filter cover is 25331177, and yes, it does fit previous year's lower air filter housing.

The opening on the 2002 Z06 airbox cover is REALLY BIG, and my thought was the hood seal would just make sure that water (rain) would not come in through the front of the hood and make its way into the airbox.
