The Tear Down................
Up on jackstands ready for the fun to begin

Making progress, so far nothing out of the ordinary found

Getting there, still no parts or chunks found

OK, now I'm stumped, down to here and I have found NOTHING out of the ordinary

I really expected to find a broken valve spring or a lifter with a torn up roller tip, but nothing, nada, zip, zilch

I guess tomorrow the heads will come off, and I'll go from there. Checked all the auxilliaries, no bad bearings or grinding noises internally. If the top end of the cylinders look good, I guess I'll drain the oil and drop the pan.

I'm no mechanic, but I'd have thought you would've found something bad by now.
She did not sound good at the track.
.. Check the ends of the pushrods for hammering, it will be slight if it just started .. Look at the lifters to see if one of them is colapsed .. Push on the springs to see if one is broken where it can't be seen .. Put a straight edge across the valve stems to see if they are all at about the same height .. Check the fan blades for interferance (I know that it's kinda late to find that one) .. Take the belt off and check all of the pulleys and the idler .. Good luck with finding your problem.
Looked all the rocker arms over, all the pushrods look fine, none of the lifters show a problem, the rollers on each lifter spin free, and none of them are damaged. Looked down each lifter passage at the cam lobe and didn't see any damage. I'm at a loss right now. Going to get the bro-in-law over to see what he thinks.

Ya might want to get them down and service them to be sure they're ready to go.
I've had piston skirts break but the sound was not like bare metal on bare metal.
Go back and check those belt driven items.
If it happened on start up then you may want to disconnect the starter and see if it was hanging up too.

Third pass I decided to drive through the waterbox and make some smoke, dropped it into first, instead of second and think I may have over-revved it a bit.

But I know you have some good go-fast parts laying around.... so you should have her better than new before long, right?

Also, if you've got any more pictures of all of our cars together or on the track, I'd love to see them.

Actually, he's probably ahead by more than one length.
I need a lot of practice launching the 4-speed.
My reaction times were never good with my automatic... and they're worse with my new car.
But hopefully I can get back to the track soon for some more practice.

on the -.008 red light. I had the guy too he broke out!
