Going to Black Hills Classic from Napa, CA to Sioux Falls. Last road night will be Grand Island, NE then Sioux Falls, SD. Planning to take 80 all the way to Omaha then straight up 29. This leg is relatively short compared to the previous legs through NV, UT and Colorado so I wonder if I can cut the corner a little from Grand Island and take 30/77 before merging with 29 and enjoy some "backroads"? Is there anything worth seeing taking this route? Or am I better off taking the main highways 80/29?
Also what speeds can I safely cruise at without attracting too much unwanted attention. Taking the silver C6 instead of the Torch Red C5.

I usually turn north at Grand Island to use 281 for my destinations a bit west of Souix Falls. The road could be fun, but:
~ The limit off the Interstate is a deathly slow 55.
~ It is the locale of my only speeding tickets in nearly two decades. It's not crawling with officers, but you never know where they will be.
~ Out of staters do not get warnings. My last ticket was for a sedate pace of less than 65, and my wife, kid & parents were in the car, so it should have been readily apparent that I wasn't going to be anything but a careful driver.
~ There are plenty of hills, and it is hard to pass sometimes if you're as cautious on the 2 lanes as I am. Especially the trucks.
My assumption is that the other state & US highways in the area are similar.
Stick with I-80. You can travel at 80 mph without attracting any real attention.
I have noticed much less, if any, enforcement activity on the interstates for some reason and if there happens to be some, 65-70 is so much more tolerable than 55-60.
I have traveled the highways and interstates in our three state area many times. The highways offer more scenery but the speed limit, hills, curves and small towns slow you down. The interstate is good for 5 mph over the limit without worries. Take interstate 80 and 29. Get to Sioux Falls and have some fun! We will see you in the 200 plus vette caravan to the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota. It is a good time!
